MAKALI BIO
Makali is an Afro rap artiste born in ’93 from Kampala, Uganda and raised in a Christian family from Arusha, Tanzania where he developed the passion and love for music at a young age from his parents. His father playing a guitar and his mother in the church choir, this led him into the children’s church choir and later came back to Kampala, Uganda and joined the school choir in primary (Alpha&Omega primary school) and secondary school (Seroma Christian High School) until he lost his mother in senior 2 (2008), due to the tragic loss he lost faith in God and backslide dropping out of the choir developing anger and bitterness which led to him being rebellious, started smoking cigarettes, drinking alcohol and taking kuber. At this stage is when he started writing secular lyrics and developed into a rapper when he went to A level (Buddo SS) and joined a music group that performed and won talent and music competitions from Sprite, Cocacola and Mountain Dew. After high school, he had healed from the loss of his mother but the habits and character were already hooked at this point which led him to start fornication, masturbation, smoking marijuana, chewing mairungi and doing drugs like Codin as he joined Kampal film school and later Cavendish University to pursue a BA in Journalism and Communication Studies majoring in Public Relations. During this stage, he started a solo career in secular music and produced music from Swangz Avenue, Talent Africa, Buddies and Roy studios while enjoying the kampala secular night life.
The turning point came in 2017, in one of the nights he was out somewhere in Kampala, he got so high from a lot of alcohol and marijuana where he blacked out and lost consciousness and memory for a while until he gained consciousness and found himself at his place with everything stolen and taken away. He started going through depression and frustration because of being disappointed with his life with marijuana being the only escape, it got worse and he tried to quit several times and failed until an old friend started believing that god can save me but he didn’t believe because he lost hope. At this stage he then decided to start attending Watoto church Kansanga once in a while until they invited him to join a neighborhood cell fellowship which he attended and got touched by the life testimonies that were shared and in November that year while in church, he got convicted by the holy spirit to recommit his life to Christ after relating to Pr. Brian Abaho’s testimony that spoke directly to his life.
This was the beginning of transformation and his testimony where the struggle of defeating the addictions and leaving sin started and in 2018, he stopped doing secular music and instead took classes in church on discipleship, prayer and evangelism that will help him grow and understand more about God which is also where he learned to serve in church as an usher. He finished that year sober for the first time in 9 years quitting all drugs, alcohol and marijuana. The next year 2019, he was able to defeat fornication and finished a full year for the first time abstaining from sex and later on defeated masturbation. In that same year is when he resumed to music but pursuing a gospel music career through mentorship and production from D’Reighn. He then joined a church near home called Christ Transformation Church (CTC), Kakiri which is under Christ Transformation Ministries (CTM) where he served as an usher later becoming a Youth leader and minister then started a Christian revival movement called Youth Wave Alight where he started visiting secondary schools and sharing his testimony to students. In 2020, he is releasing his first mixtape entitled “YESU ID”
