Born and raised in Kampala, Uganda, Sam Kimera enjoyed the environs of a largely Christian family. Music always took a central role in the home and its no surprise that his singing started during the daily family prayer time. His constant loud singing might have tested the patience and self-control of the rest of the family (haha.. putting it mildly) but he greatly thanks God for his family’s support and encouragement.
Along the years, he developed a desire to experiment with various music styles and besides his natural inclination to acoustic soul and RnB, he still has no trouble throwing in some neo-soul, reggae, hiphop and even dancehall. Its this kind of musical versatility that has enabled him work with Uganda's top gospel artistes, doing background vocals across the board; from Levixone, Coopy Bly, Jackie Senyonjo, to Maurice Kirya, Ruyonga, JT, Richy Kawesa and jazz maestro, Myko Ouma.
In his own music, K!MERA shows a deep appreciation for words and stories and their power to paint pictures and share experiences. His depth of content takes centerstage and everything grows from there. But don’t mistake it for "great content - no colour". His method is “stay true to the content, but dress it up nice”. And this multi-genre artiste knows how to do just that. With catchy melodies, lyrical hooks, and the honest voice of the long-lost friend you never met, (In the words of Uganda's top gospel DjTwonjex), “He’ll have you humming that tune long after the song ends.”
K!MERA’s music is greatly inspired by similar minded artistes such as Mali music, Commissioned, Casting crowns, Da Truth, Propaganda and the African spice from Zambia’s Lota House crew. It is this unique blend you will experience with every song, and trust me; you will press replay.
