Kajambiya original name Jovan Ssebaggala was born to the Late Samuel Muwanguzi Mpanga & Rose Lydia Muwanguzi on April 10th 1989. He’s the 4th born of 5 children.
Having lost his dad at an early stage in 1993, Jovan and his siblings were raised by their mother in Busega-Lungujja on the outskirts of Kampala. He went to Molly & Paul Busega primary school Busega for his Primary, St. Henry’s college Kitovu (SHACK) for O’ Level before joining Mengo Senior School for His A’ Level. He later joined Makerere University where he pursued a bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering and was conferred an honors degree of the same in January, 2014.
Jovan’s love for music started at an early stage. He always loved to dance to groovy music whenever it played on radio and always loved challenging his siblings in dancing. He loved to record himself on cassettes and loved to flow with ragga rythms. He however discovered his music composition skills in senior one when he joined SHACK. At SHACK, Jovan met other guys that loved music notably, Emmanuel Kusasira a.k.a Coopy Bly. At SHACK, there used to be an annual talent show called the SHACK Comps where students would compete in different categories of singing and dancing. Being Bunsen burners, many senior ones dreaded these competitions but in their year (2003), it was clear that Coopy Bly was going for these competitions and many senior ones were ready to rally behind and cheer their own. To Jovan’s surprise, on the day of the comps, there were around 5 senior ones who had registered and even participated in different singing categories in these comps. Feeling that he was better than most of them, Jovan’s music writing kicked off at this very moment. He started writing music which he would show case to his friends who loved it. From this moment, Jovan never looked back. He registered for all the subsequent SHACK comps and became a superstar in school. He would however get his first studio recording opportunity in his Senior five in 2007 while at Mengo SS. Together with his Friend Bruce, they recorded their first single “Run Away” from Southcyde Records. In 2008, the duo did their 2nd song “Bon Jah Fire” which got some air play.
In 2009 while in vacation, Jovan and a friend “Jjumba Martin” a.k.a Jumartee teamed up and formed a duet called Decent Culture. In 2011 while at Makerere University, they did the remix of Bon Jah Fire in which they featured Coopy Bly and Bruce which received massive air play. In the same year, Decent Culture recorded two other songs; Danger & Fatima which were both secular. The songs were massive but didn’t get enough air play because the duo lacked the finances to promote them. Having received Christ in 2005, Jovan was no longer sure of the kind of life he was leading. He put a pause to the music to concentrate on studies as he also tried to figure out his life. In 2013 while in his final year, he re-ignited his fire for God and joined different fellowships. There was a temptation to immediately start doing music again this time strictly for God but through his communion with God, God told him that he wasn’t ready and that he had to wait until he was. Jovan obeyed God’s voice, finished his degree and started working. Towards the end of 2016, God told him that he was ready and he started writing music again. This is the time he re-branded to Kajambiya (which is inspired by Hebrews 4:12-13) and released his first single “Bullet” under the new brand in August 2017.
