“You can take everything away: my house and my car, but Jesus and I are inseparable,” says rising star Jai Kingston, who has proven just that with his thriving musical career.

Born Wayne Damion-Nesta Buchanan on February 19, 1982 to mother Allorie Heath, the reggae gospel singing sensation started singing at the tender age of eight, and was already doing dub-plates on a number of sound systems in and around his community.

Though a seed had been planted in music, it was growing in a direction that God did not intend, so He stepped in and performed a 'heart transplant'. By age 12, Wayne began singing a different tune, ditching the August Town’s sound systems for a higher calling: he was now singing in the church for Jesus, accepting Christ as his Lord and Saviour.

Wayne defied all odds and rose to the challenge to prove that with God, all things are possible, and this gave birth to his stage name Jai, meaning Jesus and I.

Although he has been singing in church from age 12, his Ministry for Jesus really began in 1997 when he became lead singer for the group, 'Total Praise’. In 2001, the group entered the JCDC Gospel Festival and made it to the Top Ten. Their entry, “Turn your Eyes” was recorded and released as their first official single.

Becoming a member of the well-known band, “C-Sharp” and creating his hit single "Can’t Take My Lord,” made possible when he signed to Johnny Clarke’s label, Marjohnmuzik, solidified Jai’s standings in the gospel community.

Jai sang with Nadine Blair’s Perpetual Praise Team, before going off to join the revolutionary reggae gospel band, Katalys Crew, in 2003. He blazed airwaves with tracks, “Open Up Your Eyes,” and “David Dance", produced with DJ Radic on the Open Up Your Eyes album and engaged in other great collaborative projects with DJ Nicholas’ “On the Shout,” and Ryan Mark's “Chosen Prodigy.”

On February, 2006, Jai's contract with Katalys came to an end, but his journey with Jesus was only just beginning. He embarked on a solo career, operating under his own label, “Image Records.”

On August 1, 2013, he wowed the crowd at Gosplash, and is planning to return to the festival for a second time this year. While on the entrepreneurial side, his record label has organized the event Pentecost and Pluggedin. Naturally, he delivered a show stopping performance.

Spreading the gospel beyond the contours of Jamaica as a solo minister, Jai has toured US Virgin Islands in April 2014, the Nigeria Akwa Ibom in December 2014, the United Kingdom in May of 2015 and has opened for Marvin Sapp on the NYC tour of Church Tour 2013.

His singles "I Surrender" and, "Save Me" were released on July 2012 and April 2014 respectively, with "Save Me" holding down the number one spot on LIFE 102.1fm for 12 weeks, and its video making its grand debut on April 25, 2015.

Having been ordained as a Music Minister and Director in the Emmanuel Gospel Hall church, Jai Kingston has broadened his scope of helping others charities from music to assist in outreach programmes and charities Street Pastors, Extreme Impact and Youth for Christ.

Jai Kingston is really on a journey of changing lives, and already he has touched those near and far with his vocal words and melodies reflecting the spoken words of Jesus Christ. God’s love transcends through this inspirational artiste and extends to all listening to his music.
