J Prince began life in 1986 as Joel Prince in the tiny shing village of Morne Diablo in the Caribbean country of Trinidad and Tobago. He was exposed to music at a young age and quickly became enraptured with it. He became fascinated to the point of listening to songs over and over again while he tried to dissect them and gure out what made each sound he was hearing. That is when he became interested in the things that make up music; what music is.His need to be a part of the making of music in some way rst led him to deejaying. His unique approach caused a stir in the small village he grew up in and Joel was invited to perform at many local events. He eventually started dabbling in production and singing and, again, people loved what he did.By 2007 he got more serious with singing, music production and his relationship with The Lord and started using the stage name J Prince. The success of his rst 3 singles; “Victory”, “Country Christmas” and “Holy Fire” brought him to the attention of some of the greats, like Sherwin Gardner and Christafari’s founder, Mark Mohr. However, with the release of his independent project, Unlimited, in February of 2014, his place as a respected gospel musician was solidied. This album has set the foundation for J Prince’s ministry. Unlimited caused waves internationally, and he credits this to the team he had surrounding him. Many people gave their input through oering ideas and opinions which helped him bring the best out of the music. With a solid team of grounded faith-walkers and music-makers around him, J Prince was able to push and challenge himself even more. He has taken EDM, a genre of fast-tempo dance music, back for God and is one of the few gospel artists producing original works and deejaying in this hugely-popular genre. After signing with Aftertouch Music in 2015, J Prince set out on his most ambitious project to date; three completely dierent albums, released in quick succession. This has been a couple years in the making but fans can look forward to Elementum – a soca/reggae/world music album, Judah House – an entirely EDM album and a Best of J Lab and friends album – which would contain some of his favorite and more popular single releases from years past; all to be released by the end of 2017.J Prince is a well-rounded, multi-talented musician. He has produced many wildly popular songs over his career. He has been nominated for, and even won, regional awards for his music but still maintains a humbleness that is refreshing. The most important thing to J Prince is to make music from the heart. He doesn’t want to make music for music’s sake, “I try not to make music because I know, technically, how to. I want to do it because I am inspired to [by the Holy Spirit].”
