Call of Duty-David Divine

Paul, an Apostle of Jesus told Timothy,  “let no man despise your youth; but you be an example to them that believe, in word, in manner of life, in love, in faith, in purity”. (1 Tim. 4:12).

In keeping up with this scripture, it is 30 year old David Divine’s burning desire to impact the lives of others through ministry and music.

While acknowledging the changing dynamic and tempting world that we are living in, his passion in drawing people closer to God has since directed his mind to wander to the feet of the Lord.

But although this calling is one that majority of youths his age gawk at, it has instead given him the excitement to look forward to a new day and spread the gospel through his songs and preaching.

And being being a youth which is one of the most challenging period of life to be in especially for believers, the mission and vision of this budding artist has not been swayed especially now that he is in Dubai, a foreign country, whose majority populous is the Muslim community.

“God brought me to this country for a reason. There are very many Christians here and people of other religions who are hungry for the word and who constantly need to be reminded of Christ’s love for them. I am here to remind them that such love is abiding,” he says.

I met this young man who works as a fitness trainer by coincidence at Pastor Carol Machine’s house in Dubai where i had been requested to go and interview an upcoming fashion designer.

David who was born and bred in Uganda worked as full-time minister/preacher with the Love Works International church before he relocated to Dubai in search of greener pastures.

This youthful preacher whose birth name is David Baale says that his mother was his greatest inspiration, because it is from her that he got his musical talent, which he started to utilise at a young age by singing in church as a kid.

“My mum was a worship leader and we’d go to church as a family and sing as a choir. She also had a band which I joined, before i progressed to become the praise and worship leader,” he says.

David who has already released one album with six tracks says that it is during this time that he started composing and writing songs, with the first being recorded in Uganda free of charge.

“After recording my first song, a gospel artist approached engaged me and we would then perform to crowds and this is what gave me the confidence to compose more songs,” he says.

His, is a story of raw talent that is yet to be fully exploited, ambition, hope and the desire to become a great and renowned worship leader, preacher and gospel artist, sharing his musical gift with the world.

Some of his songs that have received massive airplay in Uganda include ‘Take me higher,’ ‘Crush the enemy’ and ‘Second chance’.

And being a young, single and handsome man, am curious to find out how he is able to deal with temptation and remaining chaste.

“I stay away from sin. I associate myself with people whose purpose is Christ and you will always find me in church when I am off duty because I go to different areas to minister,” he says.

He adds, ‘I worship at the Kings Renewal International which is one of the biggest churches in the UAE which has branches all over, so I travel around preaching.”

David however notes with concern that Christians today often fail to understand that God desires to have a close, intimate relationship with them right now, a relationship that only comes about when they obey the Scriptures.

“I am burdened because many young people often feel as though God will only use them or speak to them through his word when they grow older, yet this not true,” he says.
